“Like the American culture it mirrors, the historic preservation movement today is perhaps best defined in terms of its diversity and the attempts of communities around the country to incorporate the best of the past into their downtowns, their neighborhoods, and their overall environment.

As a preservationist immigrant, not a native son, I find fascinating how the constellation of preservationist organizations on the local and national level are creating spaces for renegotiating the future of historical preservation. At the ACPH, and at the National Trust, which I serve as a Trustee, we acknowledge our lack of diversity. And we plan to do something about it, mainly through bringing what we do more in the line with, here we go again, The New American History: …”
