Lower East Side: Then and Now, Walking Tour May 27

On this LESJC tour, your knowledgeable guides will take you inside some of the area’s best known sacred sites, from the spectacular to the plain and simple. You’ll see where immigrants went to shul (synagogue) and how a new generation is carrying on these traditions.

ON THIS TOUR, YOU WILL:

O Visit Bialystoker Synagogue, the largest active Orthodox congregation on the Lower East Side and a stop on the Underground Railroad
O Visit a Shtiebl (one room house of prayer)
O Visit Kehila Kedosha Janina, the only Greek tradition Romaniote synagogue in the Western Hemisphere
O Walk Historic East Broadway: Explore Seward Park, Yiddish Daily Forward Building, Educational Alliance and Henry Street Settlement
O See Beth Hamedrash Hagadol – once home of the largest Russian Jewish Congregation in the United States
