This Was Our Paradise: Spanish Camp-1929 to Today
October 12, 2007-January 13, 2008
Opening reception: Friday, October 12th, 6pm-8pm.
The story of a unique summer bungalow community as it flourished and finally met its end. Oral history, vintage photos, and a poignant photo essay by photographer Michael Falco

All Aboard: The History of the Staten Island Ferry
Thursday, October 18th, 7 pm
A fascinating talk focusing on the history of the one and only Staten Island Ferry with Curator of History, Patricia M. Salmon. A discussion on the reissue of New York Municipal Ferryboats by Vince Sweeney, with updates by the one and only Barnett Shepherd, will be included. Spanish Camp: Artist & Curators Talk
Sunday, October 21st, 2pm
Photographer Michael Falco, Jim O’Grady and Diane Matyas will discuss this
important new exhibit.

That Ever Loyal Island: Staten Island and the American Revolution with Professor Phillip Papas
Saturday, October 27th, 2pm
Join author and professor of history, Phillip Papas, for a discussion on his recent book which recounts Staten Island’s Revolutionary wartime allegiance to the British Crown. Professor Papas will sign copies of his book, which will be available for sale.

Walking Tour of St. George Highlighting Its Nautical Connections
Sunday, October 28th, 12 noon
$8/$3 museum members
In celebration of the reissue of New York Municipal Ferryboats, Patricia M. Salmon will lead a lively talk and tour focusing on one of Staten Island’s most important neighborhoods. Special emphasis will be placed on the Staten Island Ferry, the New York Harbor, and the Saint George waterfront. Geared for adults. Meet at the Museum. Filmmaking on Staten Island: The Early Days
Sunday, November 4th, 2pm
Celebrate the 114th birthday of Staten Island’s own Mabel Normand! A lecture on how Staten Island was featured in early films, as well as film-clips and film-history will be featured with writer Kevin Lewis!

The First Staten Island Know-it-All Bowl
Friday, November 9th, 7:00-10pm, at Curtis High School
A stupendous event focusing on Staten Island Trivia! Get your team assembled and get ready to show your knowledge of Staten Island history, nature, popular culture and more. Teams will vie for the honorable Museum Cup Award! Or come to cheer and learn! A good time will be had by all! $15 per 3 person team.

Non-participants: $2 audience entry fee, free for museum members.

Target Friday Free Museum Nite Presents: Spanish Camp: Design for Community & Tellebration: Spanish Camp Stories
Friday, November 16th, 7:30-10pm
How does architectural and environmental design influence community life and experience? Architectural writer Tamara Coombs will use Spanish Camp as a model. Followed by an open mic storytelling session about this unique Staten Island community.

Panel Discussion: Spanish Camp–Place Matters
November 29th, 7pm, at Wagner College, Spiro Hall, Staten Island
Preservation and cultural worth as it relates to Spanish Camp will be featured during this lively and important discussion. Moderated by Historian Mark Elliott, Steve Zeitlin, Jim O’Grady, David Goldfarb, and Patricia M. Salmon, with a visual introduction by Michael Falco, will be featured.
