2006 marked HDC’s 35th Anniversary as the citywide advocate for historic neighborhoods Looking back on our many successes this year we would like to thank you for your generous support.
With your help we assisted numerous community groups to help preserve their irreplaceable historic neighborhoods and buildings. We worked with local groups of neighbors from Fieldston in The Bronx to Harrison Street on Staten Island and everywhere in between to help save their communities. But we now need your help.
Despite our successes, there are still many more neighborhoods in need of preservation. And although this year we successfully fought to secure New York City landmark designation for three new historic districts as well as more than ten individual buildings, becoming a landmark is only the beginning. That’s why we are at the Landmarks Preservation Commission almost every week reviewing and commenting on proposed changes to landmark buildings; from new proposed towers on the Upper East Side to illegal fences in Jackson Heights, HDC is there – working to protect New York City’s landmarks.
