Queen of All Saints 300 Vanderbilt Avenue Come experience the beauty and history of one of Brooklyn’s premier landmark neighborhoods at this year’s Clinton Hill House Tour. Stroll along the tree-lined streets to see a stunning variety of architectural styles and take advantage of the rare opportunity to see the interiors and private gardens of 10 restored homes, a mansion, artists’ lofts and a French Revival Gothic Church.Residential Clinton Hill was built in the 19th century as the borough’s “gold Coast”. The neighborhood’s architectural styles include Italianate brownstones, Neo-Georgian, Queen Anne, Romanesque and Greek Revival houses which all rub shoulders with Beaux-Arts apartments and hotels. A bonus this year is a number of homes in the WALLABOUT Neighborhood, just north of Clinton Hill, an early 19th century neighborhood, on the other side of Myrtle Avenue. WALLABOUT’s designation for Landmark District is pending. There are numbers of Federal pre civil war townhouses and freestanding homes, unique for this city. The tour engages visitors by providing a glimpse of the past and a snapshot of the neighborhood’s vibrant, diverse community. Included in the price of your ticket is an audio tour, activated by your cell phone, to describe the architectural wonders you’ll see as you walk between stops on the tour. The non-profit Clinton Hill Society House Tour is our ONLY fundraiser, a land-marked neighborhood group celebrating its 34th anniversary. Proceeds from the tour help sponsor a variety of educational, historical preservation, and cultural programs. Most importantly it provides a public forum where neighbors can gather to discuss important issues concerning their community.
