This fact-filled and fascinating presentation will cover an aspect of Staten Island that few people know about: the history-filled, secret, and forgotten burial grounds of our borough! From Native American to slave burial grounds; from built over Homestead Graveyards to local Potter’s Fields; from the majestic Vanderbilt mausoleum to 18th century Huguenot, Episcopal and Dutch graveyards; Staten Island’s cemeteries tell the historical secrets of those who lived long ago. In addition, the “buried over” 19th century immigrant graveyards of the former Quarantine Station and other institutional graveyards that the public knows little about will be discussed by Patricia M. Salmon, Curator of History at the Staten Island Museum and author of the book: Realms of History: The Cemeteries of Staten Island. This publication will also be available for $28 and can be signed by the author.
