Oppose the Fordham University Lincoln Center Master Plan

From the Coalition for a Livable Westside

If you haven’t heard the great news, Fordham University’s applications for special permits and the proposed Lincoln Center Master Plan were rejected by a vote of 31 to 0 by Community Board 7/Manhattan at its meeting on Wednesday, January 21. This vote however does not end the process . The application now moves on to Borough President Scott Stringer for his recommendation. It is important for us as residents and neighbors to alert the Borough President that we oppose the Fordham Master Plan.
It is URGENT that you call Borough President Scott Stringer immediately and register your opinion. All you have to do is the following:

1. Dial 212-669-4460. You will immediately be directed to leave a voicemail message with your position on the project.

2. Once you hear the beep say, “My name is ______ and I am opposed to the Fordham Master Plan.” Feel free to offer any 3 (or less) of the reasons below.

o I feel the plan is simply too big. Fordham’s Fortress must be reduced. It is simply too massive and walls off the local community completely.

o I believe this project is entirely wrong. Fordham must go back to the drawing board and entirely rethink its plan.

o I do not support “over-development” and believe this project is just that. >From traffic to the overcrowding of our neighborhood schools, this project will have a negative impact on our quality-of-life and overwhelm the area. Fordham has no plans to deal with this.

o Fordham has refused to meet with neighbors and discuss real changes. This plan is a slap in the face to the community. It is simply unconscionable that Fordham would take this extremely aggressive and destructive position with the community.

o Fordham’s plan doesn’t fit this community. From the development of Columbus Circle to Lincoln Center’s expansion, this neighborhood has had many major development projects disrupting our daily lives. I understand that cities grow. But they must do so in a way that fits needs of the local community. Fordham’s plan doesn’t come close to doing that.
3. End by saying “thank you” and hang up.
