Short Film Screening: Duffield Street Abolitionist Home

From Four Borough Neighborhood Preservation Alliance &
Friends of 227 Abolitionist Place:

The Duffield Street advocates have already accomplished what was thought impossible. We prevented the Abolitionist homes in Downtown Brooklyn from being destroyed.

The next step is even harder, because it’s not as “dramatic” or “news-worthy.” We need to build, and not prevent destruction. Luckily, Kwabena Despinosse aka “Q” is presenting a screening of a new film short. We are blessed to have a new advocate to raise awareness of this important historic site.

    Description from Kwabena Despinosse:
In honor of Black History month I will be hosting an event that will help bring awareness and preservation to a historical site at 227 Abolitionist Place in Brooklyn, New York. During the Underground Railroad movement this historical site played a major role as a safe house assisting runaway slaves from fleeing the oppressive south.

Unfortunately, the legacy of building 227 is in jeopardy! Developers and urban planners want to redevelop the home. I need your support in keeping the legacy of 227 Abolitionist Place alive.

As you are aware I am an aspiring Filmmaker and my most recent work is producing a short film highlighting 227 Abolitionist Place. Please join me as I will be screening a short news piece in effort to bring awareness and preservation to this New York City treasure.
