Author Jeffrey I. Richman, in a virtual presentation, will tell the captivating story of how a bridge of unprecedented size and technology–the iconic Brooklyn Bridge–was built over the East River, connecting, for the first time, the then independent cities of Brooklyn and New York. This awe-inspiring structure—built during an age of technological innovation— was not only a modern engineering feat of extraordinary imagination, fortitude, and skill, it also was a towering beacon of human triumph.
In his slideshow talk, based on his recently published book, Building The Brooklyn Bridge 1869 to 1883: An Illustrated History with Images in 3D, Mr. Richman will share some of the 253 superb 19th-century images, many never before published on the printed page, that have been gathered in a book handsomely produced by Bauer and Dean Publishers.

In the Heights features a variety of characters who portray the unique way of life of Washington Heights residents. It offers an exceptional depiction of the Caribbean culture that has flourished in Upper Manhattan for the past decades and the music that is synonymous with the area’s vitality.
The movie’s Location Manager, Samsom Jacobson, will be joined in conversation with Angel Ayón, HDC advisor and preservation architect. Samsom and Angel will explore the logistics of the production and its achievements in depicting the story of so many Caribbean immigrants in New York City.
