This panel will be presented via zoom- register for more information

Designation is only the beginning is a common saying amongst preservation advocates; but claiming designation is step one is somewhat of a fallacy. In reality, we know the process of designation has many, many steps. Advocates work for years to have their neighborhood or building Landmarked. In this panel, three leaders of community groups will discuss their experiences obtaining Landmark Designations for their neighborhoods and describe how HDC helped. Jeffrey Kroessler will talk about Sunnyside Gardens, Queens; Lynn Massimo will talk about Sunset Park, Brooklyn; and Ethel Tyus will talk about Crown Heights North, Brooklyn.

What better way to showcase what the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project has done than by a virtual walking tour!

In celebration of gay pride month, HDC is sponsoring a virtual walking tour focusing on LGBT sites in Greenwich Village led by preservationists Andrew Dolkart and Ken Lustbader, founders of the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project. They will discuss gay and lesbian bars such as Stonewall, Julius’, and the Duchess; homes of important LGBT individuals including photographer Berenice Abbott and playwright Lorrraine Hansberry; and sites of important events including the kickoff location of the first gay pride march, fifty years ago this June.
