Manhattan Landmarks-South Village

Greenwich Village became a village after the American Revolution. The 1807-11 gridiron street plan bypassed the Greenwich Village historic districts and the area kept its low scale nature. The district is known for its collection of early New York row houses in a variety of styles including Federal, Greek Revival, Italianate, French Second Empire, Neo-Grec and Queen Anne. Designated December 17,2013

Greenwich Village has three other Historic Districts:

  1. Greenwich Village Historic District; Designated- April 1969
  2. Greenwich Village Historic District Extension I ;Designated- May 2006
  3. Greenwich Village Historic District Extension II; Designated- June 2010
