CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
A 19th century building altered in the Moderne style by George H. Suess in 1949. Application is to construct a rooftop addition.
We feel that the proposed addition is over-sized and too busy in the context of its modest site. The three dimensional metal framing, choice of materials and scale are superfluous, and make the design overly competitive with the original structure and surrounding buildings. The concrete parapet wall and facade framing creates a stark and inappropriate contrast of color and material. We suggest that the design be toned down through a decrease in height, removal of metal framing, and altering the concrete framing to be brick, a material compatible in color and style to the neighboring buildings.

CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
A neo-Romanesque style warehouse building designed by Boring & Tilton and built in 1902- 03. Application is to install signage.
The proposed projecting sign on the corner interrupts the overall austerity and massing of the building. We find it to be unnecessary and inappropriate.
