City Council Deliberates on East Village Historic District
Tuesday, January 29, 11 am
The East Village/Lower East Side Historic District will be heard before City Council Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Siting and Maritime Uses this Tuesday, January 29th at 11:00 am. Come out to the Council Committee Room on the 16th floor of 250 Broadway to show your support! You can also send an email to Subcommittee Chair Brad Lander ([email protected]) and local Councilmember Rosie Mendez ([email protected]) and please don’t forget to cc us at [email protected].
HDC has long been working with local groups to achieve landmark status for this neighborhood known for its immigrant history as well as its avant-garde art scene and progressive political movements. It has not been easy with pressure from anti-landmarking forces to stop this and other designation, but with your help, the East Village and Lower East Side can get its due recognition and protection.
HDC is proud to add that the East Village and Lower East Side are part of HDC’s Six to Celebrate this year. So join us later Tuesday evening for a celebratory toast at our launch party and meet the folks from the Lower East Side Preservation Initiative and the other neighborhoods
