The Historic Districts Council (HDC) is the citywide advocate for New York City’s historic neighborhoods.
Since 1970, the Historic Districts Council’s mission has been to ensure the preservation of significant historic neighborhoods, buildings and public spaces in New York City, uphold the integrity of New York City’s Landmarks Law, and further preservation ethic.
The mission is fulfilled through ongoing programs offering hands-on assistance to more than 500 community-based neighborhood partner organizations and through direct advocacy, public policy initiatives, publications, educational programming, and participation in community events.
HDC works every day to organize, educate, advocate, and fight for people who are devoted to building a city where history informs our future. We are dedicated to serving the community in every way we can, from being there at meetings and hearings to helping neighbors and providing resources.
