You don’t need to read about HDC’s accomplishments – you see them each time you walk through Greenwich Village, Brooklyn Heights, or any one of the 150+ historic districts that we protect every day.
Our team reviews every single public proposal affecting historic buildings in New York and provides more testimony than any other organization. That’s roughly 500 proposals every year!
And that’s not the half of it:
We nurture community groups through our Six to Celebrate program, educate the next generation of preservationists in our seminars and tours, and lend a voice to a network of over 500 grassroots organizations across our city.

Sign the Preservation Pledge
As a citizen of the city of New York, believe in the power of preservation to make and keep neighborhoods vibrant.
At HDC, our mission is to ensure the preservation of significant historic neighborhoods, buildings and public spaces in New York City, uphold the integrity of New York City’s Landmarks Law, and further the preservation ethic. We undertake this mission through direct advocacy, education and support for community groups—but we can’t do it alone. We need a strong constituency of committed preservationists to make our voices heard.
You can help us by staying vigilant and involved in your community, keeping informed on preservation issues, and, when relevant, taking action.
By signing this pledge, you commit to further the preservation of New York’s historic places through these means and more.
