The event will take place on November 19 at 6:30pm in a private space at the iconic Empire State Building with panoramic views of New York City.
Hugh and Tiziana have been involved for decades in how New Yorkers preserve and adapt historic buildings and neighborhoods. In their own way, they each have helped to shape and enrich the preservation movement, leading the way in appreciating, saving and re-using some of New York City’s most significant buildings. Hugh is widely known for his work restoring and adapting world-class landmarks such as the New Amsterdam and New Victory Theaters, Radio City Music Hall, Central Synagogue and Brooklyn Academy of Music, just to name a few. His early work in the Greenwich Village Historic District challenged the orthodoxy of the preservation movement with a playful twist on rowhouse architecture and his recent addition to Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater wonderfully redefined how that Modernist icon is viewed.
Trained as an architect, Tiziana led community efforts to preserve the threatened character of NoHo. This eclectic lower Manhattan neighborhood is filled with cast-iron storefronts, Victorian-era commercial lofts, and early 19th-century rowhouses, and is home to the exuberant Bayard-Condict Building, the only Louis Sullivan-designed building in New York City. She has served on the boards of several preservation and cultural organizations and has renovated historic brownstones in Harlem as well as designing the interiors of her own family’s homes. Both Hugh and Tiziana are powerful advocates for historic preservation as a force that helps New York City remain vibrant.
