Designated July 12, 1977
The Central Park West-West 73rd-74th Street Historic District runs along the north side of 73rd street and the south side of 74th street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. Development of this block began in the 1880s.
Late 19th-century town houses, some designed by Henry J. Hardenbergh, architect of the Dakota, line the streets of this district. Early covenants specified setbacks and height restrictions. The district is comprised of Beaux-Arts and Neo-Georgian row houses and a neo-Gothic apartment building. The 1904-1907 Langham, a large Beaux-Arts luxury apartment building, is also in the district.
