ALERT: Help Save Fort Greene

From Peter Vitakis [email protected]

Dear Fort Greene Neighbors and Friends:

It takes just ONE MINUTE to send a letter to Albany today!

That’s right, and it won’t even cost you the price of a stamp either. What it can do is possibly save my beloved Fort Greene and surrounding neighborhoods of Brooklyn from the controversially ill-conceived Brooklyn Atlantic Yards project.
Before the end of November, New York State’s Public Authorities Control Board (PACB) is expected to be asked to give final approval for the proposed ‘Brooklyn Atlantic Yards’ 20,000-seat arena and the densest populated high-rise project in the nation. However, on October 26th, a number of homeowners, tenants and business owners in the footprint of the proposed ‘Atlantic Yards’ project filed a federal lawsuit challenging the use of eminent domain to evict them from their properties.I’ve just sent a letter to New York State’s Public Authorities Control Board, asking them to postpone any vote on the fate of the proposed ‘Atlantic Yards’ project until the State’s courts have ruled on the project’s use of eminent domain. It takes but one minute to send a letter to Albany using Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn’s handy letter-writing mechanism at www.dddb.net/php/PACBLetter.php. Just one minute can go a long way to stopping or significantly altering the developer’s (Forest City Ratner) plan to build a massive arena and monstrous high-rise complex in the middle of historic Brooklyn brownstone neighborhoods.

If built as proposed, the ‘Atlantic Yards’ would:
be the largest private development in Brooklyn’s history.
it could cost taxpayers at least $1.6 billion.
irrevocably alter the low-rise character of Prospect Heights, Fort Greene,Clinton Hill, Park Slope and Boerum Hill.
create a nightmare of traffic, noise, pollution and other negative environmental effects.
Won’t you please take JUST ONE MINUTE and join me in sending a letter? It couldn’t be any simpler than to click on www.dddb.net/php/PACBLetter.php which will lead you along the way

And please pass this email on to others; it’s critical that the PACB hear from as many of us as possible by November 15th, because they may be asked to vote before Thanksgiving.Just go to www.dddb.net/php/PACB/Letter.php Thanks for helping to make a difference!
Peter
