513 Grand Street House was constructed by real estate investors Henry Barclay and James Lent. Along with its neighbor 511 Grand Street it is a rare surviving example of the Federal style in Manhattan. It retains its original 2½-story height, peaked roof with dormer, evenly spaced windows with stone sills and Flemish-bond brick work at the second floor. The house from the 1840s to the 1930s housed both residential tenants and businesses reflective of its location on Grand Street a major east-west thoroughfare.
