This group of rowhouses is the sole surviving example of a type of site planning used on several corner plots along West End Avenue in the early 1890s where a group of houses facing the Avenue featured a prominent corner house and an additional house was built facing the side street behind the Avenue-facing houses. The group of residences was built in 1892-93 during the first period of intense residential development for the comfortable professional class along the northern portion of West End Avenue where the suburban qualities of landscaped streets, the views of the Hudson River, and the amenities of nearby Riverside Park created a desirable residential area.
