Designated July 27, 1982
In the early decades of the 20th Century, Whitestone, north of Queens, used to be a theatrical enclave. This building, built in 1924, is a representation of those artistic years. It was built for theatrical producer Arthur Hammerstein, who built the Ed Sullivan Theatre in Manhattan in the 1920s. In 1982, it was designated a as a city Landmark for being an elegant and carefully developed example of the neo-Tudor style.
