The Edward E. Sanford House is one of the oldest buildings in the neighborhood. A survivor of the transit-fueled development in what was the village of Newtown, one of the oldest settlements on western Long Island. The Sanford House’s vernacular Italianate design was typical of the period and is likely similar to many of the area’s vanished old houses. The house retains most of its original fabric and is particularly notable for the decorative detailing of its porch, eaves, and property-line fence.
