While in temporary exile, General Giuseppe Garibaldi worked for inventor Antonio Meucci in his candle factory and lived in this home on Staten Island until he was able to resume his career in Italy. Meucci lived in this house until his death in 1889; he developed a wide range of inventions, but his greatest achievement was an early prototype of the telephone. The structure is three windows wide, clapboarded, and has a wood shingle roof.
