Girl’s High School, one of the first public secondary schools in New York City, is designed in a striking and dynamic combination of the Victorian Gothic and the French Second Empire styles by James W. Naughton. It was erected in 1885, and an addition, standing along the southern facade of the original building, was opened in 1912, and was designed by C.B.J. Snyder in the Collegiate Gothic style.
