The John and Elizabeth Truslow House, erected in 1887-88, is a major work of the prominent Brooklyn architectural finn of Parfitt Brothers and is one of its finest residential designs. The Truslow House is built of red brick with sandstone and granite trim and subtle ornamentation that emphasizes the building’s structure.

Crown Heights
The name “Crown Heights” was used starting around 1910 to describe the area south of Eastern Parkway. The area north of the parkway was called “Bedford” well into the 20th century, since the area was considered part of Bedford-Stuyvesant.
