The buildings in the Lamartine Place Historic District were constructed in the mid 19th century, these buildings were part of a block-long row created by developers William Torrey and Cyrus Mason. Most notably is the house now know as the Hopper Gibbons. The house in the only recorded site of the Underground Railroad in New York, and was the meeting place of several important abolitionist.
