The Palace Theatre is among the oldest theatres surviving in New York City. The interior has an extravagant Baroque design incorporating high-relief ornamental plasterwork. The double-balconied auditorium, with its multiplicity of boxes and loges on three levels, the unusually high and wide proscenium arch, the large stage, originally with a slanting floor, and the ample promenade areas, are among the main features of the theatre’s interiors.
