This session is part of HDC's Preservation School series, which features highly informative presentations and conversations about a wide variety of preservation issues in New York City.

He will share insights on how he collaborates with communities to highlight the importance of community engagement in his work. Such efforts can often bring little-known neighborhoods  to life on the screen

Matt will emphasize the significance of finding locations that accurately portray the stories being told, creating a compelling visual narrative that enhances the overall production. Through his expertise and experiences, he will provide valuable insights into the world of location management and its impact on helping film and television audiences appreciate the role of historic preservation in telling the city's story.

The program will be moderated by Lorna Nowvé, a member of HDC’s board of advisers. She has worked on a variety of New York-centered projects, including Only Murders In The Building, Law & Order, and Nurse Jackie.

Since the groundbreaking NYC Landmarks Law was passed in 1965, the Landmarks Preservation Commission has designated 157 landmarked historic districts throughout the city. Some are quite large, encompassing a neighborhood, others are made up of only several buildings. Some have had extensions added over the years, protecting more buildings. Brooklyn currently has 45 historic districts. Our two-part presentation will cover them all. They will be grouped by neighborhood, and we’ll explore briefly when they were designated, why they are important, and show highlights of each. Our first virtual tour will look at the Heights and surrounding neighborhoods and Northern Brooklyn. Part Two will cover the neighborhoods of Central Brooklyn, around Prospect Park, Flatbush and South Brooklyn.
