5:00 - 6:00 p.m.The Public Design Commission (PDC) has jurisdiction over permanent structures, landscape architecture, and art proposed on or over City-owned property. Their mission is to advocate for innovative, sustainable, and equitable design of public spaces and civic structures, with a goal of improving the public realm throughout the five boroughs. They maintain an archive which is open to the public that includes projects for permanent works of architecture, landscape architecture, and art proposed on or over City-owned property dating from 1902 to the present. In this class, PDC Executive Director Sreoshy Banerjea and her team will explain the vision and mission of PDC, the types of projects it has purview over, and the public process for testifying on projects at PDC and how PDC projects are reviewed when they are located in historic districts.

Apr 19, 2023April 19, 202312:00 – 1:00 p.m.Via ZoomPlease join the Historic Districts Council and Urban Archive as we celebrate the addition of HDC’s collection of over 200 Six to Celebrate neighborhood sites onto Urban Archive. Urban Archive is a collaborative mapping platform that encourages people to interact with the city as a living museum. HDC and Urban Archive share the goal of inspiring people to engage with history in the present through photographs and thoughtfully researched historic content. Now, users of Urban Archive are able to access all of our Six to Celebrate content, which contains years of research about buildings and sites in historic neighborhoods all over the city. The sites are organized into tours which are available for free on the Urban Archive app and website. We are excited that this content will be discovered by new audiences, and will bring continued awareness to the wealth of historic resources that our city has to offer.

Come hear more about the campaigns HDC will be undertaking in collaboration with this year's recipients.
