Join architectural historian Kerri Culhane, PhD, in an exploration of the 10-year-long rehabilitation project that returned the former S. Jarmulowsky’s Bank—one of the iconic buildings of the old Lower East Side—to its former glory. Kerri’s presentation will discuss the building’s history, its condition at the start of the rehabilitation, the process of recreating missing architectural materials and elements, and the building’s transformation into Nine Orchard, an award-winning hotel. As both architectural historian and historic preservation consultant, Kerri worked closely with the architects, tradespeople, and developers, as well as the State Historic Preservation Office. This rehabilitation effort earned state and federal historic preservation tax credits; it also won a Lucy G. Moses Award from the NY Landmarks Conservancy in 2021.

    General Admission $5 / AIA Credit $25
