    This walking tour explores the historical and cultural significance of the West Farms neighborhood, particularly focusing on the Garifuna people and their unique history. Licensed tour guide José Francisco, and chair of Garifuna USA, will discuss the historical significance of the Happy Land Social Club Fire to both New York City and the Garifuna community. 

    Participants will walk along the corridors of 174th Street, Boston Road, Southern Boulevard, and Crotona Parkway Malls,  important spaces where Garifunas have lived, worked, and socialized. Along the way, José Francisco will provide historical context, sharing stories and insights about the Garifuna community's contributions and experiences in this neighborhood.

    On this tour, we’ll tell you the story of the East Village since the 1950s, focusing on the many subcultures that took root and flourished here, and on the nightlife that continues to draw people to this day!

    Your guide, Krikor Daglian is a 15+ year resident of the neighborhood who has spent many an hour in the East Village eating, drinking, walking, biking, playing music, photographing and otherwise indulging in all the wonders the neighborhood has to offer.
