HDC’s Design Awards: Entry Deadline January 13th

ONE WEEK UNTIL THE DEADLINE!

HDC is seeking nominations for the 2014 Historic Districts Council Design Awards. Architects and owners may submit recently completed work, including alterations within historic districts and to historic buildings wherever in the city they may be. Entries will be evaluated by a jury chaired by James Stewart Polshek, FAIA, and will include prominent design professionals, historians and critics. Deadline for entries is January 13, 2014.

The awards will be the centerpiece of New Design + Old Places, HDC’s 20th annual preservation conference and will be presented at the opening night reception on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Steelcase.

Though there has been a long history of façade inspections regulations in New York City, recent updates to Local Law 11, now called the Façade Inspection Safety Program, have changed important requirements for architects and engineers. Timothy Lynch P.E. of the NYC Department of Buildings will discuss new requirements, including building envelope construction data and environmental exposure considerations, and how they affect the overall inspection process.

Spray insulation, friend or foe? Discuss how heat and moisture affect your buildings and how all insulation systems and materials, new and old, must work in harmony. Stephen Tilly of Stephen Tilly, Architect will consider the pros and cons of diverse methods in insulating old buildings.
