Petals and Pushcarts: A Floral District Walking Tour

Tucked into the West Twenties of Manhattan is the lesser-known Floral District. For generations, families have been growing plants and designing bouquets for New York City in this area, from small-scale pushcart florists to large-scale wholesale shops.
Join us for a 90-minute in-person walking tour in Manhattan’s Floral District led by James Francois-Pijuan – an artist with over 30 years of experience working in the floral industry, deep roots in the neighborhood, and founder of the Floral District Museum.
During the tour, you will learn about the workers, designers, immigrants, and entrepreneurs who built the Floral District, step inside working flower shops, and speak with florists to understand how the district is fighting to survive.
The Floral District is one of HDC’s 2026 Six to Celebrate awardees- New York’s only targeted citywide list of preservation priorities that provides strategies and resources to neighbourhood groups at a critical moment to reach their preservation goals.
The tour route covers a total distance of 0.4 miles at a moderate pace and will take place rain or shine.
