Six to Celebrate Book Talk: The DNA Quest to Decipher the Garifuna Distant Past – July 28

The Historic Districts Council is partnering with The Garifuna Coalition, a 2023 Six to Celebrate group, to announce an engaging in-person dialogue centered around the new book “The DNA Quest to Decipher the Garifuna Distant Past,” authored by José Francisco Ávila, chairman of the Garifuna Coalition.

In this publication, José chronicles the distinctive historical events that have shaped the evolution of the Garifuna community, including their remarkable migration to The Bronx. During the event, José will delve into his writing process, illuminating pivotal moments that have contributed to the vibrant development of the Garifuna community in the Bronx. Furthermore, he will shed light on significant locations that have played a profound role in the illustrious history of the Garifuna community.

This event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is encouraged.
