Manhattan Avenue, the shortest avenue on the Upper West Side, is a quiet, urban residential district with many architectural gems and fascinating figures. Landmark West! is excited to collaborate with HDC to share the little-known legacies of this small neighborhood. This walking tour, from 100th to 106th Streets, will highlight a variety of architectural styles from Renaissance Revival and Queen Anne rowhouses to New Law tenements, and discuss the legacy of Robert Moses’ Urban Renewal with such sites as Park West Village and Frederick Douglass Houses. We’ll also look at the people who have shaped this neighborhood over the years, including artists, immigrants, and community preservationists.
This tour is led by Sean Khorsandi and Megan Fitzpatrick. Megan Fitzpatrick is the Director of Preservation and Research at Landmark West! Having specialized with a degree in Archaeology, History and cultural heritage conservation in Ireland, Megan turned her focus to historic preservation when she moved to New York. Sean Khorsandi is the Executive Director of Landmark West! and has over 20 years of experience in architecture and historic preservation. Sean is an Adjunct Professor at NYU.
