HDC is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a 2023 Preserve New York Grant. This generous $16,000 grant from The Preservation League of New York State and the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), will fund a Cultural Resource Survey of the Little Caribbean neighborhood, to be undertaken in partnership with 2022 Six to Celebrate partner I AM CARIBBEING.
HDC’s Executive Director Frampton Tolbert, notes that “A Cultural Resource Survey of the Little Caribbean community is a preservation priority for HDC and our Six to Celebrate partner, I AM CARRIBEING. This support will help us achieve our goal of documenting the rich history and identify significant sites in the community, working closely with I AM CARRIBEING and consultant Sophonie Milande Joseph.”
The Little Caribbean Cultural Resource Survey will include a Multiple Property Documentation, an initial list of significant buildings and sites, and a robust community outreach and crowdsourcing campaign to identify additional sites of significance for preservation and commemoration.
