On February 6th, following up on our December 2022 Press Conference at City Hall decrying the ongoing trend of demolition of landmarked structures across New York, HDC sent a number of new policy recommendations to LPC detailing specific ways the LPC and DOB can work together to prevent demolition of landmarked structures in the future.
In addition to those recommendations, HDC also sent the Commission a list of buildings at risk which we compiled with the help of our community partners who know their neighborhoods best.
We received a wide range of survey responses and sent the LPC a list of more than 25 landmarked structures, or buildings within historic districts. We hope the list will be the foundation of a city-wide database of landmarked buildings at risk.
