The Historic Districts Council (HDC), New York’s citywide advocate for historic buildings and neighborhoods, is pleased to announce its Six to Celebrate, an annual listing of historic New York City neighborhoods that merit preservation attention. Six to Celebrate is New York’s only citywide list of preservation priorities.

Bronx Art Deco, The Bronx
HDC will partner with the Bronx Art Deco Apartment House Archive (BADAHA) to promote their rich archive of sites throughout the borough and work to determine which sites should be considered for landmark designation.

Coney Island, Brooklyn
HDC will join the Coney Island Museum to advocate for the neighborhood’s iconic character, through establishing walking tours, cataloging historic buildings around the amusement district, and developing plans to steward the future of the area after the community’s victory defeating the proposed casino development.

Flower District, Manhattan
HDC will collaborate with the NYC Historic Floral District Museum to celebrate the irreplaceable character of the Flower District through tours, programs, and historic markers to introduce people to the diverse history of this corner of New York City.

Historic Hotels, Citywide
HDC will work with neighborhood partners in all five boroughs to catalog and document historic hotels and create an advocacy agenda to push for more of these hotels to be converted into much needed permanent housing, rather than being demolished.
Roosevelt Island, Manhattan
HDC will partner with the Architectural Community Alliance of Roosevelt Island (ArchRI) to raise awareness for the historic and public oriented design of the island which is under threat due to continued privatization of space, as well as altering and demolition of historic structures.

Stuyvesant North, Brooklyn
HDC will assist the newly formed Stuyvesant North Preservation Society (SNPS) in advocating for the continued historic district designation of Bedford-Stuyvesant, especially the blocks of the northern section of the neighborhood filled with stunning brownstones and rowhouses that were home to famous Victorian Brooklynites.
