The Historic Districts Council finds the proposed enlargement of the rear addition inappropriate.
The existing rear extension is a composed architectural element that maintains the visibility of the upper two stories of the historic rear façade. Adding another story would disrupt these proportions and unnecessarily obscure more of the historic building.

The Historic Districts Council finds the proposed fence generally appropriate in design, particularly because its open character preserves views of the house from the street.
We do, however, believe that the proposed six-foot height is excessive for a freestanding single-family house in this historic district, and recommend reducing the fence to approximately four feet.

The Historic Districts Council does not object to the proposed building’s architectural expression, but we believe its height and massing should more closely relate to the adjacent landmarked convent.
The primary street wall should terminate at approximately the height of the convent, with a pronounced cornice establishing a clear datum at the fifth floor. Any additional story above should be set back so that the building reads from the street as a five-story structure.
