PUBLIC HEARING TESTIMONY
LPC-25-11643
246 Henry Street – Brooklyn Heights Historic District Brooklyn
CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
A Greek Revival style rowhouse built in 1846. Application is to replace the gate with a door under the stoop.
HDC questions the necessity of replacing the existing door. The applicant has already installed an unobtrusive metal gate, which could be extended instead of outright replacement. If the gate does need to be replaced with a new one, the ironwork should match that on the grilles over the basement windows.
Action: Approved with modifications to improve transparency and work with staff on ironwork details.
LPC-26-05098
164 Dean Street – Boerum Hill Historic District Brooklyn
CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
An Italianate style rowhouse built in 1851-52. Application is to construct a rear yard addition.
Architect: Benjamin F. Herzog
While the proposed massing of this project is appropriate and appreciated, the pattern of fenestration, the fenestration itself and the pattern of the masonry openings seems to have no relationship to the existing windows above, and may need to be revisited to match the neighboring rowhouses.
Action: Approved.
LPC-26-04957
44 King Street – Charlton-King-Vandam Historic District Manhattan
CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
A Greek Revival style rowhouse built in 1840. Application is to modify masonry openings at the rear façade.
The Charlton-King-Vandam Historic District contains some of the oldest buildings in New York City. HDC strongly advises caution in modifying the masonry of the top floor as it can damage the historic brickwork.
Action: Approved.
LPC-26-06203
230 West 11th Street – Greenwich Village Historic District Manhattan
CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
An Italianate style rowhouse built in 1860. Application is to replace windows, construct rooftop and rear yard additions, and alter the rear façade.
Architect: Sterling Architecture
HDC finds the glasswork in the rear to be tastefully done. However, the two story fenestration appears slightly discordant with the building layout and should be revisited. HDC also recommends reducing the height of the rooftop by a foot or so, to reduce its view from the streetscape.
Action: Approved.
