Tour: “O! Multitudes!” II: Three Centuries of Domestic Architecture on the Lower East Side

This tour is a further exploration of the architecture of the Lower East Side in relation to the development of New York City’s housing. The evolution of Lower East Side housing from the mid-nineteenth century to contemporary luxury housing will be discussed.
As you walk down iconic Lower East Side streets including Hester Street, Orchard Street, Grand Street, and Delancey Street, we’ll discuss changes and contrasts in housing over the last century. The tour will begin with a pre-law tenement on Eldridge Street and conclude with BLUE, a recently constructed condominium on Delancey Street.
