ALERT: And now a word from the proponents of the N-YHS Tower….

Dear Friend,

The New-York Historical Society needs your help.

You may have read about our plans to update and expand the Historical Society’s Central Park West home. It is a huge undertaking that will require the help of all our supporters. But this isn’t about financial support. It’s about attending upcoming public meetings where you can voice your support for the Society and its building plans.

Those plans offer us a unique opportunity to expand and reinvigorate the New-York Historical Society and bring its enormous cultural and educational benefits to an even wider audience across New York City and across America.

You may already know that proceeds from the residential portion of our construction program would be used to help fund the Society’s internal growth plans. This is critical since, as the city’s oldest museum, and its only cultural institution whose specific mission is telling the story of the nation through the prism of New York, the Historical Society must have the opportunity to grow.
What would the city be like had museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or MOMA, or the American Museum of Natural History been thwarted in their plans for growth? Greatly impoverished, for sure, and much less appealing to the tourists who now come here in droves. Should the plans of these cultural institutions have been stopped? Of course not.

The Society is currently experiencing a great resurgence in popularity. Its “Slavery” exhibits have drawn in excess of 200,000 visitors, including some 90,000 students. That’s clear proof of the huge audience an expanded Historical Society would attract. It is also proof of the incredible value this treasured institution is capable of bringing to eight million New Yorkers, including thousands of students from grade school through college from every corner of the city.

If you want more information about the N-YHS plans, or future meetings, or if you would like to know how to make your support known, please contact us at [email protected]
