ALERT: Bedell House in Tottenville Worsens

From Linda Hauck of the Tottenville Historical Society [email protected] :

We didn’t think it could get any worse here in Tottenville. It’s unthinkable that the Bedell House still sits unlocked, unguarded, and exposed to the elements. It has even become home to pigeons —- inside!

We remember well our Mayor’s visit to Tottenville over a year ago — just before November if you recall — announcing that the house would be landmarked. He seemed so proud. We’d like to see him stand in front of this house today, the poster child for bad development on Staten Island, and talk about what a great job he is doing, and what the City has done to protect and honor its great historic landmarks.

This community wants someone to come forward and explain to us why this house sits in it deteriorating condition, and why it is allowed to be further disgraced by the homeowner. This community wants something done. Now.

Take a look at this photo, and take a look at it 6 or 7 times a day. So you know how we feel.
