ALERT: City Council to hold forum on Department of Buildings, 12/4/06

City Council Public Forum on DOB: The City Council will be holding a forum on improving the Department of Buildings on Monday, December 4th, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, at University Hall, 110 East 14th Street, just east of 4th Avenue (see www.gvshp.org/documents/DOBTownHall.pdf ). This public forum presents an important opportunity to raise very serious problems with the Department of Buildings, including their impending approval of Trump and other condo-hotels, their allowing developers to perform illegal work to “beat the clock” to get around new zoning protections (as was alleged with Julian Schnabel’s development at 360 West 11th Street), and their approval of questionable air rights transfers, such as from the post office to the NYU mega-dorm on East 12th Street.

GVSHP strongly urges you to attend this forum, to raise these issues which have such a profound impact upon our neighborhood. A LARGE TUNROUT FROM THE PUBLIC WILL HELP PUT PRESSURE ON THE CITY TO ADDRESS THESE VERY SERIOUS ISSUES.

Testimony will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis, and will be limited to 2-3 minutes per speaker. However, participants are also encouraged to bring copies of their testimony, which can be longer and include full comments that may not fit into the allotted speaking time. Members of the public who cannot attend can also send in testimony via e-mail to [email protected] .

HOW TO HELP:

ATTEND THE HEARING ON MONDAY – you can speak, submit written testimony, or just come to show support. For sample testimony (to read or submit in writing), go to www.gvshp.org/DOBhearing.htm . You are encouraged to bring 20 copies of your testimony to submit or the record, whether you are planning to read it or not.
