ALERT: Final Landmark Hearing for PS 64, 9/13/06

UPDATE: Last Thursday’s meeting of the Landmark Committee of City Council was successful. The Committee voted unanimously to designate old PS 64, former Charas, as a City Landmark.

Thank you for taking time to attend the hearing !! Your presence and support was crucial – as you could sense in the Committee room.

Gregg Singer, representing the Owner of the building, began STRIPPING the architectural detail again this past Friday, after the Thursday vote.

Gregg Singer and other representatives of the Owner have stated that the Owner intends to “denude” the building of its detail, hoping it would then no longer merit Landmark status.

The VERY LAST STEP of this official process for Landmark designation:

WHAT: City Council FINAL vote
WHEN: Wednesday, September 13
1:50 pm (meeting to start at 2pm)
WHERE: City Hall – City Council Chamber
(near the Chamber Street subway stops)
leave time to get through security

PLEASE COME — Rosie Mendez wants our support when she speaks as our City Councilmember. To show that our Community cares about Landmark Designation, PLEASE ATTEND this Wednesday’s meeting of City Council.

We hope this will be the FINAL step in Landmark Designation.
