*** PLEASE ATTEND THE DESIGNATION MEETING ***
of the LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION [LPC]
Time and Place:
10.30 am, Tuesday, May 16
9th Floor – Municipal Building
1 Center Street – @ corner of Centre & Chambers,
across from City Hall
Allow at least 15 minutes for security, so arrive early.
LPC says 90 minutes will be given to discussion of old PS 64.
IF YOU WISH TO SPEAK… We believe the registration process for speaking will begin around 10 am, though we’re not certain. Each speaker will be limited to 2 minutes.
SPEAKING: The LPC cares about the architectural, historic and cultural value of the building. Though our neighborhood needs a community center, the LPC hearing is solely about the building’s historical, cultural, and architectural merits — those are the only topics we should address at this event.
IT IS NOT RELEVANT to the LPC WHO OWNS THE BUILDING NOW, or HOW THE OWNER CAME TO HAVE OWNERSHIP. EXCEPT, you can – and PLEASE DO – implore the LPC to “VOTE TODAY!!” to Designate old PS 64, because the owner intends to strip the façade of its architectural detail.
These plans are public, clear and explicit.They entail stripping all the white colored architectural detail from the building and replacing these architecturally significant pieces with stucco and/or brick.
PICK something about old PS 64 which makes you passionate,
something about the architecture, history and/or culture which
