On the Surface: Modern Materials in Historic Restoration

Modern materials can preserve the aesthetic integrity of a building’s historic design and secure a restored building against future damage. William Neeley explains the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission’s position on the use of replacement materials in historic restoration work. Additional speakers present guidelines for analyzing aesthetics and feasibility of sourcing original materials, determining the need for more durable replacement materials and, through case studies, selecting and installing substitutes.
