“10 Minutes from Everywhere”: A walking tour of Un-Landmarked Rose Hill

Sep 12, 2024

Thursday, September 12, 2024
6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Rose Hill, one of HDC’s 2024 Six to Celebrate neighborhoods, sits on the East Side of Manhattan, stretching from Madison – 2nd Avenue, 23rd to 34th Streets. Between Madison and Park, you’ll find such designated gems as Cass Gilbert’s New York Life Insurance Company Building, and Ely Jacques Kahn’s 2 Park Avenue, but east of Park Avenue, there are just four individual landmarks in the entire expanse between 23rd and 34th, all the way to the East River. This tour, led by HDC’s Preservation Manager Lucie Levine, will focus on un-designated Rose Hill, celebrating structures and stories in the neighborhood that are ripe for recognition, but which have not yet gotten their due. As we walk, we’ll find out how art, industry, commerce, and public affairs converged on these blocks, and encounter such luminaries as Louis Comfort Tiffany and Milton Glazer, Chester A. Arthur and Anthony Bourdain, Keith Haring, and W. H Auden.

Friend of HDC / Senior $15; General Admission $20
