Get an early start on summer by watching The Bungalows of Rockaway

on Wed. March 16th, 8 pm., THIRTEEN/WNET

Narrated by the brilliant Estelle Parsons, the world of New York City’s largest bungalow colony is revived with enticing vintage postcards, home movies, and music. And with a smart and honest glimpse into a beachfront battle going on today in Rockaway, the documentary, informed by themes of working class leisure, urbanism, and class and race relations, focuses on the bungalows, modest retreats that once were the summer home for thousands of working New Yorkers in the 20th century. New Yorkers tell their stories of the boardwalk days; renowned historians comment. Cameos by Maxine Marx, daughter of Chico, and New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

Many bungalows! Much sunlight! Spread the word!
