991 St. John’s Place (bet. Brooklyn & New York Avenues)

Agenda items are: the proposed boundaries of the Phase I area, what to expect next, how the Historic District designation process works and how Historic District status may affect Crown Heights North.

Crown Heights North Association, Inc. is proud to announce that after working with the Landmarks Preservation Commission, Councilman Albert Vann and the Historic Districts Council over the past few years, the neighborhood of Crown Heights North is poised to undergo Phase I of the Historic District designation process.

Crown Heights North, an area rich in architectural distinctiveness including numerous pristine townhomes, historic churches and home to the world’s first Children’s Museum, is now coming into its’ own. After many years, the Landmarks Preservation Commission has designated the Studebaker Building, The Truslow Residence and Imperial Apartments as new individual landmarks and these buildings join the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and Historic Weeksville as community treasures. CHNA is working with the Commission to complete the process they started in 1978 and designate the entire area as a Historic District.

Crown Heights North Association Inc. (CHNA) and Albert Vann, 36th District Council Member are hosting a question and answer panel discussion with the Landmarks Preservation Commission for the Crown Heights North community located in Community Board 8. This discussion will inform residents on the next phase of designation as well as provide answers to their questions.

CHNA is a non-profit organization formed by a group of concerned neighbors who have been working over the past four years to obtain Historic District status for Crown Heights North. CHNA has garnered support and approval from Community Board 8, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Councilpersons Albert Vann and Letitia James, Assemblyman Karim Camara, State Senator Carl Andrews and a host of other elected officials as well as community organizations and residents.
