Best of all — this presentation is free of charge!!!

Believe it or not Staten Island is home to numerous burial grounds that have been forgotten, hidden, or are unknown to the average citizen. Did you know that:
– the “Old French Church” had a burial ground at what is now the corner of Richmond Avenue and Arthur Kill Road in Greenridge? It is under a Waldbaums!
– that a number of 18th century residents are buried under Port Richmond Avenue in Port Richmond?
– that an Androvette Homestead Graveyard exists under Cornelia Avenue in Prince’s Bay?
– that the Tysen-Decker Homestead Graveyard was located where the Pergament Plaza stands in New Springville?
– that a cemetery for the Child’s Nursery and Hospital operated just west of the intersection of Holden Blvd. and Manor Road at Manor Heights?
– that fascinating cemeteries were established, and are still used, at Mount Loretto and the former St. Michael’s’ orphanage?
– that immigrant cemeteries “thrived” at Saint George, Prince’s Bay, and Silver Lake. Yes Martha, people really are buried at the 18th hole of the Silver Lake Golf Course!
– that a cemetery at Port Richmond Center is the final resting place for many former Slaves?
– that Staten Island is home to one of the most famous Native American burial grounds ever discovered in New York State?
– that Staten Island holds at least three former “Potter’s Fields”?
Wow, this and more will be highlighted during an insightful discussion with
Curator of History Patricia M. Salmon.
